General Information on my practice
Procedure Description: Appointments and Phone contacts
What To Expect: Please arrive about 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete the initial paperwork, insurance forms, consents etc.You may bring a family member to your visits, who may come into the sessions if you like.
Preprocedure: The first session usually last over an hour with me and involves a full evaluation of your symptoms, complaints, past history, family history, previous treatments. The diagnosis will be discussed and an outline of a treatment plan will be developed. Medication may be prescribed and explanations and what you need to do for your treatment to be a success will be discussed.
Postprocedure: An appointment will be made for follow up 15 minute medication checks and supportive therapy. More intense individual therapy can be coordinated with our local therapists.Phone calls should be limited to questions regarding problems with your treatment, or urgent issues. Routine issues should be noted and held to the next scheduled visit. If you call in the morning, especially on Mon, Wed, or Fridays, I will call back at the end of that day. I will be in the office those days and so will have access to your chart. Other days (Tuesday and Thursday) I do not. Calls after noon may not be returned to the following afternoon. I do not have hospital priveleges so if you need hospitalisation, another doctor will be in charge of your care for the duration of your stay. If you feel you are likely to need hospitalisation, you may be better served attending another psychiatrist who has hospital priveleges.

Mary Sheehan: NAMI Exemplary Psychiatrist Award
My wife Dr Mary Sheehan MD, Medical Director of PEMHS, the crisis center for Pinellas County, was honored at the 2003 American Psychiatric Association Convention with the "Exemplary Psychiatrists Award" by the National Association for Mentally Ill (NAMI) for her excellent service to her patients and community. She was presented with the prestigious commendation at a special event in PEMHS on June 19th 2003.
